Fayette County Public Schools plans to launch the Carter G. Woodson Preparatory Academy in the fall of 2021-22, and the application window will open January 18 through midnight February 1.

The STEM-focused curriculum (science, technology, engineering, and math) will be taught through the lens of African-American history, culture, and culturally responsive teaching and learning strategies. This new school, which will first be housed in the renovated and historic Johnson Elementary building on Sixth Street, will initially admit 150 boys in grades K-2, adding a level each year through fifth grade.

The district will host two online events to share more details about the application process and the school’s opening.

A Virtual open house takes place on Thursday, January 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm via Zoom.
